Well I finally updated the mp3 page after a month
or so of neglect. And I discovered that thanks to ripping some CD's I bought,
along with of course my usual downloading, I've finally surpassed 2,000 mp3's
which takes up almost 9 gigs of hard drive space. That's a lot of music :) And
speaking of music, I bought Weezer's Pinkerton album and Blink 182's Takeoff
album today. I figured that since I'm making decent money thanks to my job, I
can swallow the extra $4 and get it now instead of waiting for a sale. And I
might also note that I would have never bought either CD if I hadn't downloaded
most of the songs first to make sure I liked it. Once again mp3's lead to the
sale of CD's. Why the RIAA doesn't get this is beyond me.

Even as much as I complain about the government and it's policy's, I still love
America. Sure it has it's flaws, but all in all I'm proud to be an American and
I think we've done an awful lot of good in the world. Thank you to all those
great Americans who signed 226 years ago one of the greatest documents ever
created: The Declaration of Independence

Things were really dead at work today. Most everyone had off, so the phones
almost never rang. And almond M&M's are strangly addicting. I think someone
needs to look into that, to see what the Mars company is giving our nations
youth that makes them so good. Not as good as peanut M&M's though. No, not as
good as the peanut.
What happens when you mix math with Lego? Good things. Like Mobius strips and
saddle points. This would be a really cool math project now that I think
about it, heck I'm tempted to go and try to make my own Lego mobius strip. See,
math really IS beautiful!
Hmm, when I finally get out of school and into a steady job, I may just have to
buy my own DDR
machine. I think 5th mix is my favoritest.

T'is laundry day.
Thanks to 8 years of typing, according to TypingTest.com I can type on average about 80
words per minute (adjusted) when I'm trying to go for speed. Of course normally
I don't type quite that fast for papers and the such, but it's still up there. I
don't really think about each individual letter, I just see the word and let my
fingers flow. Similiar to how I read; I don't read words, I read
sentences. I still remember learning touch typing with Mavis Beacon Teaches
Typing, except back then I think it was on version 2 or something like that.

Well I've gotten around to updating the Linux section. I've also added it as a
subdomain, so linux.binaryfusion.net
also works, which is yet another advantage of my new hoster.

nerdy. I actually do know the guy playing Professor X though, which was part
of a play his school put on.
The greatest thing since Google, elgooG
I've added a search box over to the side because I thought it'd be sorta useful.
It's powered by Google, hence the reason that it takes you to a Google website.
However it lets me customize it a bit so I can make it flow with the design
scheme of this site. I think more sites should begin to use Google for their
site searches, because well almost every site search is terrible. They never
return any results that are even remotely close to what I'm looking for, and I
have to end up going to Google anyways.
And speaking of Google, there's a Java browser app to see graphical related
sites.
And since I'm still talking about search engines, it's amazing to me the
searches my site turns up in. It seems as though any search relating to DDR
somehow ends up here. And then random phrases that have nothing to do with one
another somehow get linked together and listed as a result to some search. Guess
it just goes to show how flawed search engines still are. I wonder if I wrote a
bunch about Banana Penguin's, this site would become the top ranked site
for everything Banana Penguin. I'll write Banana Penguin another time
just to try to get a bit higher in the Banana Penguin ratings. Now when
anyone searches for Banana Penguin, I'll be at the top of the list :)
April 2001 is now coolness.
While updating the archives, I noticed that a lot of the "hot" sites during the
dotcom boom no longer exist. CueCat went broke and now the domain name no longer
resolves, and DotcomGuy is now just a bit of internet folklore who doesn't even
have a domain name anymore. How times have changed.
I also found a bunch of CD's on sale the other day, so I am now the proud owner
of Weezer's Green album, Something Corporate's (very awesome new band) "Leaving
Out The Window", Stabbing Westward's "Whither Blister Burn & Peel", and
Punkorama 3. And once again, without mp3's, I would have never bought any of
them.
And speaking of Weezer, the music video of their latest single, "Keep Fishin" is
online. It features all the muppets, and has Kermit in a Weezer shirt. How cool
is that? :)

Here's some good ol' fashion over-tired-ramblings. And being that I have to get
up so early for work, I dont' even have to stay up till 4 in the morning to
reach this state, midnight works for me!
I was thinking the other day about how it's hard to make space movies with
weightlessness. You have to do the whole plane thing where you go up and down
adn up and down and up and down and up and down and u.... er well you get the
idea. Anyways, a couple of thousand years in the future when we've moved on to
space, what happens when someone wants to make an "Earth" movie? It'll be hard
to stimulate Earth gravity then, while weightlessness will be easy. So enjoy
gravity films while you can!
And speaking of weightlessness, I have an ingenious idea for a movie. The
anti-gravity movie! It's an ordinary day.... and then earth's mass goes to zero
and the gravitation acceleration goes to 0! Unfortunatly everyoen would get
flung off the earth, so I suppose it'd be a really short movie, but it's a neat
idea none-the-less. I've already patented the lack of gravity (you can patent
anything these days) so don't go and try and steal my idea or I'll sue you for a
jabillion (10^3403349) yen.
I also saw A Walk To Remember the other day. If you are one of the billions of
people who didnt' see this movie, it's a sappy teen romance flick. Not too bad
as sappy teen romance flicks go, but not
Oh-My-Gosh-This-Movie-Is-The-Best-Thing-Since-Sliced-Bread type (for examples of
those, see Requiem for a Dream and The Matrix). Anywho, first off how can Mandy
Moore possibly play an ugly girl? IMHO (which as many will tell you is very
messed up) she looks better as the plain girl than in that music video on the
DVD with all her gobs of makeup. But even then she wouldn't be "ugly" just well
"unattractive" (yes, there is a huge difference). I thought she was gonna
aphexiate (boy my spelling sucks) herself with all that makeup. Plus I have
problems with the whole bad-boy-who-is-really-good (the hyphen (-) is your
friend!) thing. That never happens in real life heardly, and yet girls think
they can change bad boys into good people, meanwhile forgetting about all the
guys WHO ARE ALREADY GOOD! Bah, sorry, pet peeve.

Germans know their techno. All the best stuff comes from them. And
speaking of music, I need to listen to more country. There's a lot of
great songs that I've forgotten about. And I still maintain that country
has the best story telling music of any genre. Plus steel guitars (the
instrument that gives country the twang) just sound cool.

I just keep expanding my "official" music collection. I picked up Linkin Park's
Hybird Theory and Trance Party Volume 2 yesterday. The dance CD was bought soley
because it had a lot of songs that I had downloaded and loved. So yes, once
again, without mp3's, I would have never bought that CD. Heck, being that radio
hardly ever plays techno, every techno CD I own pretty much owes itself to
mp3's, since that's the only way to really listen to new stuff.
Sonic
games on a Nintendo system, first it was just Dreamcast Games (Sonic
Adventure) but now it's even Genisis games. I'll definitly be picking this up,
but who would have ever believed that Sega games would ever appear on a Nintendo
platform? It's chaos I tell you!
Oh, and I heard that Wendy's gets Mario
toys starting September 2nd, mostly likely to promote the release of
Mario
Sunshine. Yay for Mario toys! I think I still have the McDonalds SMB3 Mario
raccoon toy with the spring thing, somewhere around here.....
Why
I want to go to Germany. An entire day of electronica with hundreds of
thousands of other people? Does it get any better? (the answer is No in
case you weren't sure. It does not get any better)

A special thanks to my friend Jenny for a blow-up penguin chair. It's a kid size
chair, but man is it ever cool. I may as well start a penguin shrine or
something, as I have penguin shirts, stuffed penguins, caffinated penguin mints,
foam penguins, and penguin stickers. Am I maybe just a tad bit obsessive about
the Linux
penguin? Nah......
I was over at friends house (Hi Kathryn and Kristy!) the other night, and
because they moved to a new house and therefore had just ordered cable, they got
a month's worth of digital cable TV. The end result of that being they get some
500 odd channels, including digital music channels (but unfortunatly no videogame music one),
sports channels, and channels on everything anyone could ever want
to possibly watch (the home decorating channel?). Anywho, one of those channel's
had a show on it called "Music that sucks", I kid you not. That my dear reader,
is the ultimate TV show. What they really need is a "TV that sucks" and play
reruns of Big Brother and <!-- insert crappy TV show here --> on there.
Yeah..... the "TV Trash" channel: 24 hours of poke-my-eye-out-with-a-blunt-stick
television good...er uh badness.
More people running Windows 3.x need to
visit my site. The scary thing though is at least 2 have. Ahhhhhh, Windows 3.11.

I think
someone should make it their life goal to make up some fact out of the blue and
get 95% of the population to repeat it as fact. Now THAT is power. Urban Legends rock. Like how about "Anthony is the
greatest person alive". Now tell that to 5 of your friends as fact, and tell
them to tell it to 5 other people and so on and so forth. And soon I will rule
the world!!!!!!!!111 Now that I think about it, chain letters teach millions of
people about exponential progression. So next time you get some piece of spam
telling you to tell 10 of your friends something, think of it as a math lesson.
Figure out how many people it will reach if just 5 people forward it to someone
else. Sometimes I wonder..... people say the Bible is the most read document
ever, but someday it may be some chain letter that's been floating around since
1978. Wouldn't suprise me anyways.
Yet another reason why Google is hands down the coolest dotcom ever. Google H4x0r. Get your l337 on,
and search the web the h4x0r way. Google never ceases to amaze.
The NES
Gamecube. Sometimes I think it'd be really neat to go back in time and show
people back in '86 what the systems of today can do. Or in the other way,
someone from 2020 coming back to this time and showing us the cool systems from
the future.
I want to go skydiving at some point in my life, but 25
miles up seems a bit excessive. It would be pretty cool to break the sound
barrier on the way down though.
May 2001 is ready for groovin
I went and saw Scooby Doo last night, and was very pleasently suprised. It's
about as stupid as it looks, but it reliezes it's sillyness and so it's actually
really funny. Doesn't hurt that Velma is so cute either :)
Well Microsoft is finally admitting that their
attempt to discredit Linux on the basis of cost has failed. Their FUD (Fear,
Uncertaintly, Doubt) campaign against Linux wasn't as sucessful as they'd hoped,
so now they're going to actually try competiting with truths instead of
fallacy's
Despite the presistant rumors, I am, as far as I am aware (barring some sort of
Sixth Sense thing), not dead.
Instead just really busy. I've barely had
any computer time the last few days, so I"m about to go through withdrawl
symptoms. But alas all is good and now you get one of my super-de-rific (I'm not
Barney, I swear!) updates! Yay!
First off, the Song of
the Moment is updated with an incredible piano piece from Amelie called
Comptine d'un Autre Ete (or at least that's what the mp3 says). Speaking of
Amelie, YOU MUST
SEE THIS MOVIE! It just came out on video/dvd on Tuesday, and it is one of the
best movies I have ever seen. It's a French film (which means you get to read
subtitles) about a girl, Amelie, who discovers she likes to help people, and
also herself. I'm not great at explaining it, so why don't you go see the movie
and then you won't have to wonder :) It's also incredibly funny at points, the
cinemetography is gorgeous, and it's just a really nice movie. Sorta interesting
that two of my favorite movies elicit opposite emotions. Requiem for a Dream is
dreary and ultimatly depressing, while Amelie is cheerful and ultimatly happy.
Anyways, go see it already!
I also had an eye appointment today, and I
have 2500 vision in my right eye, 2400 vision in my left. That big E on the eye
chart? Yeah, couldn't see it. She had to hold up fingers and ask me how many she
was holding up. The good news though is my eyesight hasnt' gotten worse in the
past year, so it's still the same level of badness.

Conditioning is a great great invention.
I want to play Gran Turismo on an 2,400 square foot IMAX screen too.
And finally, a HUGE thanks to two very cool people. One person for telling me
about a broken link to my picture. And the second person for improving my GAIM Music program. I was quite shocked to see
someone actually emailing me about something I wrote and improving it. Thanks

Less than one month until it's back to college and the dorm life. And I can't
wait! :) Sure summer is nice, and hanging out with my non-UF-going
friends is fun, but I'm definitly looking forward to getting back to
school and being around 40,000 people my own age 24 hours a day with no
adult supervision. What's not to like?
Poor Tiger Woods. He was in contention to win his 3rd straight
major, and instead he shots a 10 over par 81, his worst pro score yet. Of course
that's still some 50 odd strokes better than I could ever possibly hope to do on
that course, but I really would have liked to see him win.
Apparently no one seems to care that tanning will give you skin cancer and
possibly kill you, but when you remind women that it'll cause pre-mature wrinkling and blemishes they don't want to do it anymore.
What a crazy world we live in. Perhaps I'm just fortunate though that since I'm
Hispanicish (adding -ish to words is the greatest thing everish) I have
naturally tan looking skin.

I was riding in the car with a friend of mine the other day when I came up with
a brilliant idea. I am going to patent a color! I'm sure it's possible, if the
patent office can allow things like "one-click
shopping" to get by, then inventing a specialized color should have no
problem going through. Then I can get rich suing people over using my color.
Then I thought of an even better plan, I will patent the idea of patenting
colors. That way I'll own every color that ever existed, and that ever will
exist. Muhahahahah
You know, I think I may just need to transfer to a
new college. Case Western Reserve is getting fiber optic internet on their campus, which offers up to one
gigabit a second in tranfer speeds. That's about 125 MB a second. That's
downloading 3 Linux ISO CD's (650 MB each)in about 15 seconds. That's about 10
times faster than the max currently at most universities. That's fast :)
Unfortunatly due to the nature of the Internet, it'll never reach those speeds
when you're trying to download something off another server, but the connection
between students on campus should be awfully fast. I want I want!

I went and bought the Amelie
soundtrack this afternoon. It's got some really great tracks on it, though
it's very "French" I would say, so be sure to download a few mp3's before you
consider buying it.
A 60
foot squid washed up on a Tasmanian beach yesterday. Unfortunatly they
changed the picture caption from when it first broke this morning. It used to
say "It would be good for a large barbque" underneath the picture, no joke. Too
bad the other editors at CNN didn't think that was a good idea.
Why do people speed during rush hour? What's the point? You're just going have
to brake a little farther up and everyone you just passed catches right back up.
I just can't wait for the day when cars drive themselves, and then you no longer
have to worry about passing people, slow cars, fast cars, or anything. Heck,
just think how much money you'll save since you don't have to pay traffic cops
anymore. Someday it'll happen.

Ever heard of Palladium? It's a way of "securing" your computer, which Microsoft
wants to implement to basically make it impossible to have any fair use rights
on digital media that the MPAA/RIAA/etc don't want you to have. It would let
those companies do whatever they want to your computer, including uninstalling
"bad" software and possibly deleting anything "bad" you downloaded. There's a
great FAQ on the whole subject here which I highly
recommend reading to get an idea of what Microsoft and Intel have in mind and
what's possible if they do eventually impliment it.
I was thinking the other day (dangerous, I know) about how pessimists really
should be the happiest people on Earth. They expect everything to go wrong, so
hence they can't be disappointed when they do. And if things happen to go right,
then it's just a nice bonus. It's like the (old?) saying: If at first you dont'
succeed, lower your expectations.
Quite possibly the coolest thing
ever. It not only bounces and streches like other putty's, it can even
shatter! Must...... buy...... (Psst... I accept donations *hint* *hint*)
Pioneer 10 is still going strong, even after 30
years in space. I've even talked about how it was "dead" before on here, only to
come back to "life" a few months later. Quite an interesting article about where
our deepest space probes are at nowdays.

I finally got a hold of some of the pictures from my birthday party almost 2
months ago, but I suppose it's better late than never. Anyways, here's a group shot of all my friends who could make it that
night. I'm the incredibly hot and attractive man in the center with the blue
Linux penguin shirt on, yeah, THAT one *wink* *wink*.
I also finally got my Planet
Gamecube E3 DVD in the mail the other day. It's pretty cool, as it has the
entire Nintendo E3 press confernce, and lots and lots and lots of video of all
the games that Nintendo and their 3rd party friends showed off. Plus it gives me
a good warm fuzzy feeling to help out a Nintendo fan site stay afloat :)

Why am I such a sucker for kids movies that you can tell the plot of just by
seeing the trailer? Why must Disney constantly feed my insatiable hunger for
low-grade but often funny and always predictable kids movies? WHY!?!?! The
latest target: Max Keeble's
Big Move. Utterly predicatable and chalk full of sterotypical static
characters, but it was awfully funny and by golly I liked it. Worth a rent
anyways.
Today is System Administrator Day!
Give a geek some love today for all that hard work and suffering
with all the countless (l)users he/she has
to deal with everyday. It's enough to make any sysadmin turn into a BOFH.
Today was also Tampa's 3rd ever Dance Dance Revolution tournament, held at
Malibu Grand Prix. Unfortunatly all the slots were taken up by the time I got
there after work, so I didn't get to be in it. I did stay around and watch the
freestyle portions though, and there were a couple of really nice ones.
While tech was going on I played some 7th mix down the road, where some
60 year old guy and his wife payed for some of my DDR. I had just gotten off the
machine from my turn, and he hands me some money telling me to play it again, so
I do, and then he hands me even more money to play it yet again. Him and his
wife really seemed to enjoy it. DDR: Bridging the generational gap.
Another thing I forgot to mention is that I picked up Trance Party Volume 1 and
Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill the other day. And yes, once again,
without mp3's, neither of them would have been bought. The Trance Party
Cd's are awesome, I highly recommend them if you want some good techno.
I've also been hitting the library lately, and have been trying to get into the
habit of reading again. I used to read ALL the time when I was younger (but that
could have been because I didn't have anything else to do...) and I
miss it. Anyways, I read a book called "The Math Gene" which is how mathematics
and language are related. The first half of the book is interesting, as it
discusses all kinds of cool math related things, but the second half is pretty
boring as it gets into language. And I still don't buy into his theory that
mathematics brought about language. I'm also about halfway through "Nerds:
2.0.1", which is about the history of the Internet. It's absolutly facinating,
and so far I'd highly recommend it. Very few people had any idea how much of an
impact their work would have 30 years later. And then I also got two Dave Barry
books, because Dave Barry is hillarious.

Since our big TV broke
yesterday, I had a lot of spare time on my hands. So I did three months of
archive updates: September 2001, October 2001, and November 2001
I HATE rush hour traffic.
It did give me the oppurtunity to listen to the entire 51 minute Avril Lavigne
CD I bought today on a trip that normally takes about 20 minutes. Only $9 too,
well worth it. Why can't all CD's be that cheap?

It was exactly one year ago today that I discovered that the UF student union
recieved a DDR machine. They didn't have one there at the beginning of the
Summer B semester, so I'd given up on it, but low and behold I was in there
bowling one day and I kept thinking I was imaginining hearing Dynamite Rave.
Turns out I wasn't. Now days it makes $800 a week.
