We went to a Māori village to eat some of their tribal food and see some of their dances and customs. They were the first inhabitants of New Zealand (~1300AD) and were destabilized when the English showed up in the late 1700's.

However since Western civilization was slightly more advanced by then, they weren't completely wiped out like the Native Americans, and they currently make up about 10% of the population of New Zealand.
