The first update in over 2 months, and it's a photo update!
I've been all over the place the last few weeks, which is part of the reason I haven't had time to update the website. The highlight being visiting Kara again down in Kiwi land for 2 weeks back at the end of August. She gets back to the States from her study abroad trip in mid-November, so I can't wait for her to come home!

Then I've been doing a lot of traveling with work, teaching some courses on Freescale's Tower development system and MQX RTOS. So that's why I was out in Boston, which is an awesome city, and California.

Then finally two weeks ago ACL came into town with its 130 bands. Unfortunately it began pouring on Saturday, and by Sunday the entire park was a muddy mess. It was still a lot of fun though and got to see some great bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Girl Talk, Passion Pit, Mute Math, and a lot more.

There was also more layoffs at work today, but no one in my group was affected thankfully. Made it past yet another round!

Sometimes I really have to wonder what year I'm living in, when I read news stories about a judge in Louisiana who refuses to marry interracial couples. I'm the child of an interracial marriage, and even our president is a child of an interracial marriage. This guy has no business at all being a judge, and it's just another depressing reminder that some people will always be bigots.

CNN.com did a re-design this morning, which it's always jarring when a website you use all the time changes format. But then considering they haven't really done a big redesign since 2000, I suppose it was about time.

I'm really like the new Owl City - Fireflies song.

The Austin Film Festival started on Thursday, and I've already gone to see 4 movies in the two nights they've been screening so far. Thursday I saw Serious Moonlight (quite good, and darker than you think a romcom would be) and Youth in Revolt (funny, but got annoying after a while). Then yesterday saw Precious (REALLY good, but a very heavy kind of movie) and Harmony and Me (was just alright). The interesting thing about the last movie was at the Q&A with the director and some of the actors, the director threw a tantrum at the quality of the projection, and refused to answer any questions (even calling them "pointless") and just whined the entire time. Interestingly he was the cover story in this week's Austin Chronicle, and he comes off as a jerk in that interview too.

And after how many years (?), phone makers have finally decided to standardize on a cell phone charger standard, the micro-USB cable. Well duh! At least most every cell phone now days can be charged via a mini-USB cable, it's so much easier to plug it into my computer with a universal cable than hoping I didn't forget the special charger and then hunt for a wall socket to plug it into.
